Boards built out of nature, built out in nature

Square Root Surfboards is a fusion of organic materials and tech. Our materials are sourced in the wild and are built to interact with nature. SRS board outlines and rockers are designed using 3D software and then carved out of locally sourced wood. Our hollow wooden board frames are cut on a CNC router and then hand assembled and glued to our paulownia decks. Our rails are shaped from locally harvested yucca or agave, as well as cork or solid paulownia. The rails are then hand shaped before being glassed with bio-resin. All of our hollow boards come with a gore-tex vent leash plug, which allows the air inside the board to escape when under pressure from expansion caused by temperature and pressure changes.

“When I see a yucca on the ranch that has lived out its natural life and dropped its seeds, I look to see if it has the right bend for the nose or the tail, and I can picture it. When I cut it and dry it, it has a new life after death – it becomes a surfboard.” – Matt Solomon
